The police authorities in in Lagos have communicated that they will not allow any rally to take place at the Lekki Tollgate, along the Lekki-Epe expressway, on October 1.
The police spokesperson in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin, said in an official statement that the information needed to reach the people. It would help enlighten the Nigerians who might be planning to assemble at the tollgate.
“A court of competent jurisdiction has ruled that no person is allowed to converge on the Lekki Tollgate for whatever reason,” the statement read.
This decision has been reached, keeping in line with the mandate of the police authorities to protect life and property. The Lagos State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Abiodun Alabi, is determined not to leave any stone unturned to ensure that the people of Nigeria and the state of Lagos will observe total compliance with the court order.
Further, the Lagos state police command will ensure that the state’s security is not compromised.
Thus, the police authorities of Lagos have issued a warning, stating that if any person is found flouting the court order, or infringing on the rights of other Nigerians, such a person will face the consequences of their actions in compliance with the law of the state.
The statement of the police authorities has come following an order from a federal high court in Lagos. This high court order resulted from a group of people filing a suit seeking to stop the supporters of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, from holding any rally at the tollgate or elsewhere in Lagos.
Justice Daniel Osiagor announced that presidential candidate Obi’s supporters may go ahead with their rally but not at the tollgate.
