The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Art is sponsoring the games under the Ministry’s flagship, the Talenta Hela initiative. The competition started with the launch ceremony on August 24 and will run for three days, ending on August 26, 2023.

The talenta hela initiative aims to identify, nurture and develop talents. This is why the initiative was rolled out by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Arts and Sports, led by CS Ababu Namwamba.

A team of Scouts are on the grounds to identify talents throughout the competitions, after which those that the ministry scouts spot will be incorporated into the Sports Academies for training as usual.

For day one of the Talanta Hela Football Tournament Championships of Coastal Region, Mombasa Boys took Lamu Boys head-on in a highly spirited match, with both teams looking stronger and up to task, the game ended at 1:1 on the Shanzu Teachers Training College Grounds as Tana River Boys pinned down TaitaTaveta Boys 2:1.

Kwale boys won against Lamu 1:0, while Kilifi County smashed Tana River boys 4:0. On the Soccer Girls’ side, Mombasa pinned Lamu 4:1, and Taita Taveta went on smashing Tana River 2:0.

Following the delay caused by the vetting process of athletes on August 24, two matches, i.e. Tana River Girls Vs. Kilifi Girls and Lamu Girls vs. Kwale Girls had to postpone to August 25 2023, kick off at 8.00 AM. The teams are expected to be at their respective pitches at 7:30 AM.
