Nigerian Hip Hop artist charged with assault of police officer, remanded at Ikoyi Correctional Centre

Nigerian Singer Ice Prince, whose real name is Panshak Henry Zamani, was arrested under the command of the Lagos State Police for allegedly assaulting a police officer. The police authorities presented the Musician at the Magistrates’ Court in the Ajah area of Lagos State, where he was charged on three counts bordering on assault, obstruction, and abduction and sentenced.

The police authorities presented the Musician at the Magistrates’ Court in the Ajah area of Lagos State, where he was charged on three counts bordering on assault, obstruction, and abduction and sentenced.

When the magistrate read the charges, the artiste pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties.

In a tweet, the Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, while explaining the specifics of the incident, said the artiste was driving to a destination in the state when the police patrol team in the area stopped him at about 3 am for driving without licence plates.

The police officers were said to have insisted that Ice Prince should visit the station, and after agreeing, one of the police officers entered the vehicle.

Hundeyin then added in the tweet that the artiste, after that, abducted the policeman, assaulted and threatened to throw him into a river before he was arrested.

The Police Public Relations Officer tweeted:

“At 3 am today, @Iceprincezamani was stopped for driving without licence plates. He agreed to be taken to the station.

“He, thereafter, abducted the police officer in his car, assaulted him and threatened to throw him in the river. He has been arrested and would be arraigned today.”

The magistrate court in the Ajah area of Lagos State has ordered the remand of popular Hip-Hop Artist Panshak Zamani, famously known as Ice Prince, at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for alleged assault on a police officer.

The singer, who currently trends as number one on Twitter, seems to have some sentiments on his side, as many Twitter users want to hear the singer’s side of the story without making up an opinion. Some others have maintained that Ice Prince was not above the law.
