Nigerian Adventurer Pelumi Nubi Embarks on Epic Transatlantic Road Trip from London to Lagos

She shared her motivation, stating, "As a traveller, I wanted to do something quite adventurous. It was something that was in the books for me. We also don’t see a lot of solo black female travellers. It’s just like representation matters

29-year-old UK-based Nigerian adventurer Pelumi Nubi is set to embark on an unprecedented transatlantic road trip from London to Lagos, covering 17 countries in two months.

Inspired by the trailblazing journey of fellow adventurer Kunle Adeyanju, who conquered the same route on a motorcycle in 2022, Nubi aims not only to satisfy her love for adventure but also to inspire other solo female travellers and drive representation among black female adventurers.

Nubi, who has already explored 80 countries across six continents, expressed her excitement about the upcoming journey during a recent podcast interview on January 19, 2024.

She shared her motivation, stating, “As a traveller, I wanted to do something quite adventurous. It was something that was in the books for me. We also don’t see a lot of solo black female travellers. It’s just like representation matters.

It’s important to see people do things and just open your mind to what’s possible. Some people don’t know it’s possible to go through London to Lagos by road.”

The journey, expected to commence from England, will take Nubi through a diverse array of landscapes, cultures, and histories.

Her meticulously planned route encompasses traversing through France, Spain, Morocco, West Sahara Desert, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, before culminating in the vibrant city of Lagos.

Nubi’s ambition mirrors that of Kunle Adeyanju, who successfully completed the same journey on a motorcycle just two years ago.

Their connection goes beyond shared aspirations, as Nubi revealed, “He did it by bike two years ago. I was on the phone with him and mentioned what he did was so cool.”

Adeyanju’s feat acted as a catalyst, propelling Nubi to embark on this extraordinary odyssey with the comfort of four wheels.

The adventurer plans to immerse herself in the local cultures, explore every city and country along her route, and document her experiences through various media platforms.

Nubi hopes to showcase the beauty, challenges, and possibilities of each destination, encouraging others to push boundaries and embrace the spirit of adventure.

This road trip serves as a testament to the power of human resilience and determination, breaking down stereotypes and inspiring a new generation of explorers.

As Nubi sets out on this epic journey, she not only aims to make history but also to leave an indelible mark on the travel landscape, particularly for black female solo adventurers.

In an era where representation is increasingly recognized as pivotal, Pelumi Nubi’s odyssey stands as a beacon of inspiration, breaking barriers and paving the way for more diverse voices in the world of adventure travel.

As she embarks on this unparalleled expedition, the world eagerly awaits to witness the unfolding chapters of her journey, celebrating the courage and tenacity that define the essence of Pelumi Nubi’s transatlantic road trip from London to Lagos.
