University of Nigeria Kidnapping: Security officials visit crime scene, launch manhunt for abductors

Security Officers in Nigeria went on a strategic assessment of the crime scene where some students of University of Nigeria were abducted

Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, along with the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Army of Nigeria, Major General Umar Musa, went on a strategic assessment of the areas where some students of the University of Nigeria and others were abducted on Sunday.

Additionally, the officers visited Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road, where criminals carried out abductions. These police officers suspect the criminals of being herders.

The Police Commissioner, CP Ahmed Ammani, joined these officers on the visits. Additionally, H.M Daluwa, the state Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), , Garrison Commander, 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. M.K Ibrahim, among others.

During the visit for the on-thespot assessment, the GOC, 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Musa interacted with the media. They spoke on behalf of other heads of security agencies in the state in Nigeria. He stated that “the perpetrators are purely kidnappers.”

Major General Musa has taken the opportunity to assure the state’s public that the combined teams of security agencies operational in the state will go into the bush to apprehend these perpetrators, rescue the victims and end their menace along the road.

He assured the public that the security agencies in Nigeria would go “deep into the bushes” to pursue the culprits of the abductions and ensure that they do not perpetrate more harm along the road.

Major General Musa has advised public members to report to the security agencies of the state whenever there is an incident of insecurity rather than rushing to social media. In his opinion, “news items on social media platforms are most of the time unconfirmed incidents. These incidents could send the wrong notion to the public.”

The GOC has maintained that Enugu is a peaceful state. He has asked to remain notwithstanding the unfortunate incidents along Ugwogo-Opi Road, in the past.
