On 13th November 2023, the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) of Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital received a generous donation from the Vice Chancellor Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa on 13th November 2023.
The donation comprised two much-needed incubators, a valuable addition to the Hospital’s resources.
Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, who leads the University’s management, expressed his happiness in contributing to the Hospital’s betterment and emphasised the University’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for all.
Moreover, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the symbiotic relationship between the teaching hospital and the University, stating that this act of generosity aligns with the University’s new culture of utilising all equipment, either donating it or using it where necessary.
As Medical students from the University are about to undergo their Clinical Programme in a few months at the Hospital, the students will benefit from the rapport between the two institutions, and the donated incubators will play a crucial role in supporting their educational and practical experiences.
Furthermore, Professor Hadiza Saidu Bala, the Hospital’s chief medical director, expressed her gratitude for the gesture.
With the Hospital possessing only one functional incubator in the SCBU, she expressed the importance of the donated equipment, especially in caring for preterm babies requiring incubation.
Professor Bala hoped for a strong and cohesive relationship between the University and the Hospital, emphasising the significance of every aspect of their shared mission.
Notably, the representative of the executive secretary of the state Ministry of Health acknowledged Professor Kurawa’s consistent support, citing previous donations through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
This act of philanthropy is seen as a means to foster a renewed and meaningful relationship between the two institutions, solidifying their connection for the benefit of healthcare and education.
