Saint Lucia: Philip J Pierre travels to SKN for 104th ECCB meeting

The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre, who also serves as the minister of Finance in the government of Saint Lucia, presided over the 104th Meeting of the Monetary Council of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. The meeting occurred in Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis, on Friday, February 24, 2023.

The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre, who also serves as the minister of Finance in the government of Saint Lucia, presided over the 104th Meeting of the Monetary Council of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. The meeting occurred in Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis, on Friday, February 24, 2023.

The Prime Minister is the chairperson of the Monetary Council of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank [ECCB]. Accordingly, he would preside over the meeting of the ECCB, which will have Members of the ECCB Monetary Council, their advisors and members of the ECCB Executive and Management Committee in attendance at the event. The members will meet at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium Phase Building – ECCB Bank Campus in Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis.

During the meeting, the Eastern Caribean Central Bank monetary council members will receive the report from the governor examining the economic, financial and credit condition of ECCU (Eastern Caribbean Currency Union) in the previous year.

Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre, travelled to St Kitts and Nevis for the 104th Monetary Council Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Meeting on February 24, 2023. He will conclude the trip to St Kitts and Nevis on February 25, 2023.

Notably, Minister of Finance Philip J Pierre assumed the chairmanship of the ECCB Monetary Council in July 2022. Since the start of his tenure, the Prime Minister has worked on creating a strategic, people-focused agenda that addresses the priority areas of focus.

Accordingly, the following priorities fall in the mantle of the chairman’s responsibilities:

Tackling Inflation
Resilient and Inclusive Growth
Financial Stability and Financial Inclusion
Payments Modernisation and Digital Transformation.

The Saint Lucian Prime Minister has been working hard to ensure that they can address these priorities during the twelve months of his chairmanship. Meanwhile, in his absence, The Minister of Education, Shawn Edward, will act as the prime minister of Saint Lucia on behalf of PM Pierre.
