Saint Lucia: Philip J Pierre lauds WTO DG Okonjo-Iweala at Independence day

The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre, received the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as she participated in the 44th Independence Day celebration of saint Lucia. Dr Okonjo-Iweala was the guest of honour at the country's independence day celebration.

The saint Lucian Prime Minister shared some images of the director general attending the independence day celebrations.

At the same time, PM Pierre praised the accomplishments of his guest of honour. He urged the people of saint Lucia through his social media post to be inspired by international figures such as Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. The political leader described her as a woman who has conquered the world in her field.

Notably, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is the first woman politician to be Finance and Foreign Minister of Nigeria and the first woman and African to head the World Trade Organisation. She is celebrated as one of the most influential leaders and among the world’s most powerful women.

Taking from the example of Dr Okonjo-Iweala, Prime Minister Philip J Pierre urged the people of his country to not, therefore, bridle our ambitions. He urged the people to dream big “let them be as lofty as our Pitons, and let them surpass the heights of Mount Gimie.”

At the event, the guest of honour of the 44th Independence Day Celebration delivered remarks for the Saint Lucian attendants and congratulated them on the momentous occasion. Following the event, the Director-General of the world trade organization and a prominent politician of Nigeria was given a Painting by a young talented artist of Saint Lucia, Kadrian Ernest.

The Celebration of the 44th anniversary of Saint Lucia’s independence took place with several events organized nationwide. The prime Minister shared glimpses from all these events with the post independence day message that read:

As we continue on this journey, let us all stride forward with the watchwords of discipline, pride, love and unity, whether at home or abroad. Douvan Ansanm – that is the only way to progress and the only way to shape our destiny. I wish everyone a happy and peaceful Independence Day.
