Victor Boniface, the Super Eagles striker, has successfully completed his medicals ahead of a significant transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.
The 24-year-old Nigerian forward is set to make a move from Bayer Leverkusen, with the two clubs agreeing on a transfer deal worth €60 million, according to SkySport Germany.
Boniface, who has been a standout performer for Leverkusen since joining the club in 2023, will reportedly earn €15 million net per season with the Riyadh-based club.
The move comes amid Al-Nassr’s search for a new striker following the departure of Anderson Talisca, further highlighting the club’s intent to bolster its attacking options.
Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso confirmed earlier this week that negotiations were ongoing between the two clubs and that Boniface was central to the discussions.
“The talks are progressing well, and Victor’s future is now in Al-Nassr’s hands,” Alonso remarked, indicating that the striker’s departure was nearing completion.
Boniface’s potential move to Saudi Arabia comes just a week after he signed a contract extension with Bayer Leverkusen, extending his stay at the Bundesliga club until 2026.
However, the financial lure of Al-Nassr and the opportunity to join a team featuring global stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, and Aymeric Laporte has proven too strong to resist.
Once confirmed, Boniface will become the second-most expensive player to leave Leverkusen, following Kai Havertz’s €80 million transfer to Chelsea in 2020.
The striker has been in exceptional form since his arrival in Germany, having joined Leverkusen from Belgian club Union SG in July 2023 for €20.5 million.
In his debut season, Boniface scored 14 goals in 23 Bundesliga matches, helping Leverkusen secure the league title while remaining unbeaten throughout the campaign.
His impressive performances earned him the prestigious Bundesliga Rookie of the Year award, and he also won the monthly Player of the Month award four times during the season.
Despite being sidelined with a thigh injury since November, Boniface has continued to impress this season, scoring eight goals in 15 appearances for Leverkusen.
His ability to find the back of the net even when not at full fitness only adds to his value, making him a highly sought-after talent in European football.
