Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit nominates Cleopatra Henry for IMO Secretary General

The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, recently took to his social media account to share that the Government of Dominica has nominated the President of the World Maritime University, Dr Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, as a candidate for the Post of Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

The Prime Minister of Dominica shared his pride in the accomplishment of a fellow Dominica Citizen. PM Roosevelt Skerrit shared some achievements that Dr Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry has recorded in her life and successful career as a legal professional. The woman brought pride to the country with her work in the international field and took the name of the Caribbean Nation to great heights.

Dr Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry is an accomplished woman. She holds a Graduate and Post Graduate degree in law (LL.B, LL.M). She holds a PhD, LLD h.c, International Law)Se has previously served as the Director of the International Labour Standards Department of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Dr Henry hails from the Mahaut region of Dominica. She has served several international organizations with distinction. Prime Minister Skerrit expressed his pride at the achievements of Dr Cleopatra and noted that she is a global leader in maritime law, labour standards and labour law. She has represented the commonwealth of Dominica diligently through her work and conduct. 

PM Skerrit added, “We are proud of her achievements and wish her success in the upcoming election set for July 2023 during the 129th session of the IMO Council.” Several social media users have also come out to express their pride and joy at the accomplishment of their fellow nationals. 

Some of the social media users were also the fellow classmates of Dr Cleopatra. Social media user, Lucia Blaize Jones, a classmate of Dr Henry, shared, Class of ’72.
