Davido: Son Ifeanyi’s death investigation nanny presents version of events

The accidental death by drowning of Ifeanyi, the son of Nigeria’s singer-songwriter, Davido, has attracted condolences and grief from across the globe. Several celebrities and influential leaders have expressed condolences.

The police command of the Lagos state detained the cook and the nanny, who were responsible for the care and safekeeping of the child, Ifeanyi Adeleke.

The Nigeria police have commenced investigations into the drowning incident, which happened on Monday, October 31, 2022, at the Banana Island residence of Davido.

Reportedly, the police authorities had arrested eight individuals from the Nigerian musician’s household for interrogation.

The police have so far released six members of the household staff. However, the nanny and cook, entrusted with caring for 3-year-old Ifeanyi in the absence of his parents, have been detained. The police will charge them with negligence.

According to the version of events presented by the nanny, she was with Ifeanyi when the head of staff joined them.

The nanny subsequently left the room, leaving the toddler with the head of staff. She went to another room to take a call.

When she returned, she did not find Ifeanyi. At this point, she assumed that the three-year-old was with the head staff. However, the head of the household staff said he left Ifeanyi with her.

When the two staff members realized they could not find the boy anywhere, they began searching for him in the house. The search lasted for nearly twenty minutes before a guard spotted the three-year-old. Ifeanyi was in the pool in the back of the house and had already drowned.

The guard, who spotted Ifeanyi in the pool, reported that on learning of the incident, Davido and Chioma were devastated.

He revealed, “Davido went mad. He took his clothes off and wanted to run through the streets. We detained him. He and Chioma are inconsolable.”
