Quoted from a trusted source reported by Al Jazeera, local authorities said that 132 people had been rescued and immediately rushed to a number of hospitals. Police spokesman Alfred Alabo said 22 people died in the school building collapse. Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said in a Facebook post that 30 people were still being treated in hospital. The rescue operation has ended and the site has been cleared, he said.
In this rescue, the rescue team evacuated the victims using heavy equipment. The process of evacuating the victims was surrounded by local residents. Dozens of villagers gathered near the school, some crying and others offering help as excavators combed through rubble from parts of the collapsed building. One woman was seen wailing and trying to get close to the wreckage while others held her back because it was dangerous.
NEMA said rescue and health workers and security forces had been deployed at the scene immediately after the collapse. They immediately searched for the trapped students.
“To ensure immediate medical attention, the government has instructed hospitals to prioritize treatment without documentation or payment,” Plateau state information commissioner Musa Ashoms said in a statement to https://www.thepatriotmilitia.com/ .
The Plateau state government said this incident occurred because the building’s structure was weak and its location was near the river bank. They urged schools facing similar problems to close. Building collapses have become commonplace in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country.
