Nigerian music star Michael Adebayo, known professionally as Ruger, has opened up about his profound spiritual experience during a recent crossover service at the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Lagos, a place he fondly recalls as his childhood church.
Ruger, who has made a name for himself in the Nigerian music industry, attended the annual service this year after missing it for the past two years due to international commitments.
The ‘Asiwaju’ singer, who has enjoyed a meteoric rise in his career, made it a priority to be present at this year’s crossover service.
In a heartfelt testimony shared with the congregation, he revealed that he instructed his manager to cancel any previously scheduled shows that would have conflicted with the church service.
“I told my manager to cancel it. I didn’t care about the show,” Ruger expressed. “I have to be in church. In 2021, I was here, but I missed the crossover service in 2022 and 2023 because I was abroad. This year, I told my manager to close all shows before the crossover service because I wouldn’t miss it for anything. Whatever it is, we are not taking it.”
Ruger, visibly moved by the experience, revealed that the service marked a significant emotional breakthrough for him, as he shed tears for the first time in four years.
“I have not cried in like four years. Today, I saw God again, and I cried. I thank God for my life,” he shared, expressing his gratitude for the role the church and its congregation have played in his personal and spiritual growth.
The singer also expressed deep appreciation for the church, its leadership, and the community that has supported him over the years.
“This is a very caring church. Because, if this church is not great, great people would not come out of this church,” he said, acknowledging the impact it had on his journey.
Ruger’s rise to fame began in 2021 when he signed with D’Prince’s Jonzing World Record, an affiliate of Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records. His breakout hit, “Ruger,” quickly gained popularity and solidified his place in the Nigerian music scene.
The 2021 AFRIMA Best Newcomer Award and the Best New Artiste award at the 2023 Soundcity MVP Awards further cemented his status as one of the industry’s brightest talents.
In February 2024, Ruger made headlines again when he announced his departure from Jonzing World Record to establish his own label, Blown Boy Entertainment, signaling his ambition to take his career to even greater heights.
