He took to his official social media handle (Facebook) to share an update on the well-being of the nationals in the Republic of China (Taiwan).
“I know it’s after 3 in the morning but I had to call our Ambassador to Taiwan, HE Donya Francis, to enquire about our citizens there. He reported that all are well. In addition, he reported that he had not at the time of our call gotten any official word of deaths”, added PM Drew.
He urged the people in the Federation to pray for the well-being of their nationals, who are currently living in Taiwan.
On Wednesday, the prime minister had a conversation with Taiwan’s Ambassador to St Kitts and Nevis, Michael Lin, regarding the current situation in Taiwan.
As per the information, a total of 7 persons have lost their lives, about 736 are injured, and 77 persons rescued following a devastating earthquake.
The leader of the St Kitts and Nevis, Drew extended his full support for the people of Taiwan with every possible thing in his power.
If sources are to be believed, it has been said that this earthquake is considered the most powerful and terrifying one in the last 25 years, which resulted in the destruction of infrastructure, especially in the mountainous region of Hualien and the capital city Taipei.
The natural disaster caused many landslides and posed great challenges for the rescue team as many buildings collapsed, trapping civilians under the rubble.
The people across the region took to their Facebook handles and expressed their grief for the people who have died in the earthquake and prayed for others.
“Pray for our reps there also in Taiwan and the many students we have over there. I have reached out to a couple students there and they also indicated that they were doing great and in good health. Bless them all”, quoted one.
“My prayers go out to the people in Taiwan give God all the praise belongs to him”, commented another.
