The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully carried out airstrikes targeting terrorist food depots in Jubillaram, a notorious stronghold in the Tumbuns region of the Lake Chad Basin.
The operation, which took place on Saturday, November 23, has resulted in the deaths of many insurgents and a significant disruption to their logistical operations.
According to Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, the NAF spokesman, the strikes were part of a broader offensive under Operation Hadin Kai (AC OPHK).
The mission targeted critical terrorist infrastructure, including storage facilities that served as both a food depot and a refuge for key terrorist leaders and fighters.
The airstrike was conducted after months of intelligence gathering, which linked the terrorist group to recent attacks, including a deadly assault on Nigerian troops in Kareto on November 16.
Akinboyewa highlighted the importance of the intelligence used in identifying the location and planning the operation.
“This mission was made possible through detailed Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations,” Akinboyewa said.
“These missions, which spanned several days, confirmed the existence of active terrorist structures hidden beneath dense vegetation.”
NAF fighter jets were deployed to launch a robust air interdiction mission, targeting the identified storage facilities and neutralizing insurgents in the area.
The strike also involved subsequent mop-up operations with cannons to eliminate any fleeing hostile elements.
The spokesman emphasized that the destruction of the food depots and the death of a large number of fighters had significantly hindered the terrorists’ logistical capabilities.
This will likely have a lasting impact on their ability to carry out future attacks, weakening their operations in the region.
“The destruction of this enclave and its associated facilities was a major blow to the terrorists,” Akinboyewa added. “It will disrupt their ability to sustain attacks on Nigerian troops and civilians.”
He reiterated that the NAF’s efforts are part of a larger, ongoing commitment to safeguarding Nigeria and its citizens.
These operations are carried out both independently and in collaboration with ground forces to combat terrorism effectively.
The operation in Jubillaram is a significant step in the NAF’s broader campaign to weaken the insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin.
It also demonstrates the NAF’s capability to carry out precise airstrikes based on actionable intelligence, which has been vital in neutralizing terrorist threats.
As part of Nigeria’s continued fight against terrorism, the NAF has vowed to maintain strong operations, both independently and alongside ground forces, until all terrorist elements are eradicated from the region.
“We will not relent in our efforts,” Akinboyewa assured. “The Nigerian Air Force remains committed to protecting the sovereignty and prosperity of our nation.”
