The Nigeria Youth Parliament (NYP) has expressed its readiness to partner with individuals and organizations to enact and carry out programs and projects that will directly impact the Nigerian Youths. To this end, The Director of Communication and Strategy at the Nigeria Youth Parliament, Timothy Nwachukwu, took to his social media to share the updates.
Nwachukwu has recently assumed the position of the Director of Communication and Strategy of the Nigeria Youth Parliament. In his recent update, he shared that the Nigeria youth parliament has a mandate of over seventy-million Nigerian youths. They are across the six geo-political zones. The Youth Parliament also seeks to strengthen, reinforce, and consolidate efforts in empowering young people.
They seek to do so through meaningful youth engagement while driving Nigeria’s developmental agenda. He stated that multi-stakeholder collaboration is needed to address the challenges afflicting the Nigerian youth. Some of these youth belong to the vulnerable segment of society with peculiar unmet needs, aspirations and challenges. These needs, aspirations and challenges include:
- Unemployment and underemployment
- Negative values,
- Poor education and illiteracy,
- Inadequate parental care, among others
Meanwhile, Ambassador Timothy Nwachukwu revealed that the apex Youth Parliamentarian body led by Dr Azeezat Yishawu is looking forward to partnering with individuals, corporate organizations, international development organizations and government agencies. They also seek to work towards creating more strategic opportunities to engage the youths in productive ventures.
Further, they want to provide quality and transformative leadership in the country. According to him, the leadership will create a radical and transformative strategy. This will further help to energize Nigeria’s economic growth and development engine.
The Nigerian Youth Parliament was formally inaugurated in 2008 in line with the United Nations’ call on member states to establish a platform through which Young people can adequately contribute to decision-making processes on issues that concern them and inculcate democratic principles and leadership qualities.
