Police kills Nnewi youth based on Assumption, social media criticizes

The victim, Anabike, was a resident of the Okpunoeze Uruagu community in Nnewi Anambra. The police officials in the area killed the Okpunoeze Uruagu youth on the suspicion that he was planning to burn their police station.

Some social media users have expressed their disappointment over the increased incidents of uncertainty and insecurity in the area. The people of Nnewi have further demanded that the police investigate the incident thoroughly. The reports state that at the time of the incident, Christopher Anabike was visiting his friend, a POS operator, around Area Command in Umudim.

Sources reveal that he was visiting his friend after returning from his work. When Anabike got there, his friend wasn’t around. Further, as he tried to reach him on the phone to know his whereabouts, the Policemen approached him. They shot at him, killing him instantly because they thought he came to burn their police station.

Here, it is worth noting that the youth was standing alone at the time of the incident. Christopher had no weapon on himself, not even a keg of fuel. Accordingly, several social media users have urged police officials to look into the incident with severity. At the same time, they have expressed their concern over the growing incidents of insecurity.

A social media user, poshme_gloww, has expressed her disappointment over the incident with the words:

Every day my brother leaves the house for work, my heart is unrest!!!!! These people are killing us like animals!!!!! Insensitive killings up and down, how did I find myself in this country.!!!!

Another social media user, omanne1, has condemned the action of the Nigerian police. She wrote: These people take lives like they could create a strand of hair. You just ended a life based on assumption! God have mercy
