Edo state commits restoration of power in communities

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Electricity, Engr. Victor Obanor has assured the people of the Ologbo Community in Edo State that Edo State Government will do all it takes to restore power to the Community.

Giving this assurance during a peacekeeping meeting held to resolve disputes between members of the Community and Ossiomo Company at the Palace of the Duke of Ologbo dukedom recently, the Permanent Secretary noted that Ologbo Community remains a key driver of economic prosperity for the State; hence, the State Government’s partnership with Ossiomo Power Company to establish an Independent Power Plant in Ologbo that will meet the high demand for power supply in the State.

Engr. Obanor, while thanking the host community for their peaceful and hospitable gesture towards Ossiomo Power Company over the years, apologized to the Community over their inability to access power supply for some months, noting that every landmark innovation comes with its challenges, as experienced by Ossiomo Power Plant in the Community.

The Permanent Secretary further assured them they would promptly resolve all lingering issues. They claim that they will set up a communication channel comprising top Government Executives, community leaders of Ologbo, and the management of Ossiomo Power Company. This will ensure they achieve a successful deliberation that will yield positive results.

He noted that this would allow for robust engagement between the Community, the Ossiomo Power Company and the State Government. Engr. Obanor, therefore, appealed to the Community to help sustain the Government’s developmental efforts in the State through peaceful conduct and engagement.

On his part, the Enogie of Ologbo Dukedom HRH. Owenubugie Akenzua appreciated Governor Godwin Obaseki for his developmental strides in the Community and his swift response toward finding a solution to the power supply issue.

The Enogie assured the Permanent Secretary that his people would not sabotage the State Government’s efforts, as they are a peace-loving people, while assuring the cooperation of the Community’s leaders with the Government in finding a lasting solution to the power supply issue.

Earlier, the spokesperson and Chairman of the Electricity Committee of Ologbo, Hon. Sam Ogie JP, thanked the State Government for their investment in the Community but expressed displeasure over the lingering power outage in the Community for the past forty-five days.

He noted that efforts to resolve the issues before the meeting had proven abortive owing to failed promises from the management of Ossiomo Company, appealing to the State Government to expedite actions to restore power supply to their Community.

During the visit to the Community, the Permanent Secretary and his entourage made an inspection tour around the Ossiomo Power Plant to assess the facility.
