Gov Godwin Obaseki applauds retiring Chief Judge, pledges support to Judiciary

The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, commended the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Joe Acha, for his meritorious service. The applause comes on the eve of the judge’s retirement on Friday, May 19, 2023.

The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, commended the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Joe Acha, for his meritorious service. The applause comes on the eve of the judge’s retirement on Friday, May 19, 2023. The Governor received a courtesy call from the leadership of the State Judiciary on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. Here, he made the remarks of applause for the retiring chief judge of the State.

The Edo State Government House in Benin City served as the venue for the courtesy call. Governor Obaseki commended the Chief Judge for his cooperation with the executive arm of the State. He attributed a large part of the successes recorded by his administration to the working relationship between the executive and judicial components of the State.

During the visit, Godwin Obaseki stressed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the justice system. He aims to make untainted justice accessible to citizens of the State. Obaseki said, “I am glad that with Justice Acha, we have begun to create a road map for the judiciary.” The state government has done the same for the executive.

He stated they had created a work plan to ensure the ordinary Edo citizen had unfettered access to justice. Meanwhile, The government aims to make sure by making sure that we strengthen those courts that provide that access. The government is working particularly to enhance the lower courts.

Accordingly, the Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Joe Acha, appreciated the Governor for his support to the state judiciary. He particularly highlighted the area of infrastructural development and the welfare of judges and staff of the judiciary.

Acha said: “I could not have wished for a better Governor. Your passion for turning Edo State into an El Dorado is legendary. Additionally, he said to the governor, thank you sincerely for making me shine like a star. I implore you to continue in the same spirit with my successor when the time comes.”
