Bayelsa: Douye Diri attends Niger Delta University Combined Convocation

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa recently attended the 6th Combined Convocation ceremony of Niger Delta University. The authorities of Niger Delta University hosted the convocation ceremony at the Wilberforce Island campus. During the event, 7,793 graduands recieved various Degrees and Diploma certificates as well as 783 Postgraduate Degrees.

The Convocation ceremony took place on Thursday, May 11, 2023. During the event, the Bayelsa State Niger Delta University students got the chance to meet their governor. During the event, Governor Diri interacted with the students of the University. The Senator also took the opportunity to reflect on the need for development on the premises of the Niger Delta University.

Education is among the topmost priorities of the Governor’s Prosperity Government. He has made several significant strides in the education field of the country’s people. He has regularly met education officers to understand the education sector’s circumstances.

The conference covers for three academic sessions of 2019-2020, 2020-2021, and 2021-2022. The gathering featured all the members of the staff ad students of the three preceding sessions of the University. Marking his attendance at the event, Governor Douuye Diri said he was happy with the institution’s academic progress. Niger Delta University has been functioning well for years under the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Edoumiekumo.

The Governor of Bayelsa, Douye Diri promised to support the improvement of facilities in the University. Accordingly, he directed the immediate construction of a new and befitting Convocation Arena. He also urged the authorities of Niger Delta University to direct their efforts towards developing the Faculty of Environmental Sciences.

During the event, The Governor of Bayelsa accompanied the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo and other members of the Bayelsa government. Governor Diri congratulated the graduands on the successful completion of their programmes. The politician and the leader of the prosperity government shared several glimpses from the event on his social media.
