Dominica: Melissa Skerrit shares list of accomplishments after 100 days in Office

Melissa Skerrit, has completed 100 days in the office of the Minister of Housing and Urban Development. To commemorate the occasion, the Minister of Housing shared a list of her accomplishments during the three months.

Dominica, Roseau: The Minister of Housing in the government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Melissa Skerrit, has completed 100 days in the office of the Minister of Housing and Urban Development. To commemorate the occasion, the Minister of Housing shared a list of her accomplishments during the three months. The Minister also shared some initiatives that her ministry plans to bring to the forefront. 

  • The Accomplishments of the ministry of Housing are listed below.
  • Handed over 18 homes in Bataca under the 11th European Union Housing Initiative 
  • Handed over 45 homes under the Housing Recovery Project
  • 16 land compensation approvals in Wesley to private owners for International Airport construction
  • Handover of 11 newly renovated homes in Grand bay to private owners
  • Led delegation visits to housing sites in Canefield, Trafalgar, Scotts head, Castle Bruce, Grand bay and Vieille Case to assess ongoing housing projects
  • Completion of children’s playground at Peebles Park Opening of the student centre at City Breeze apartments
  • Launch of vertical/modern farming techniques program
  • Launch of the National Assessment Champions program for grade six students
  • Launch of web design course for adults 
  • Further, the Ministry of Housing and urban development completed the Topographical and Boundary Land surveys conducted for six major projects, including:
      1. International Airport 
      2. East Coast Resettlement
      3. Champagne Beach Tourism reception office
      4. Cable Car Landing Site
      5. Track and Field facility in Portsmouth
      6. Future Housing Program in Warner 
  • Hosting of Invest St Lucia and St Lucia Development Bank

Minister of Housing and Urban Development in the Government of Dominica Melissa Skerrit also shared some initiatives which are in progress and will be introduced to the general public soon. These initiatives and services include:

  • Modern Resilient Housing Developments at 11 sites: 253 units, 40% complete
  • Esport Center, 75% complete 
  • Set up of 8 commercial spaces at City Breeze Apartments; 35% complete  
  • Roseau Enhancement project, renegotiations ongoing
