US: Rich McCormick hails Indian community, terms them productive

Rich McCormick, one of the top lawmakers in America, has praised the population of Indian Americans residing there for their contributions to the nation. McCormick noted that although the Indian Community comprises only one per cent of the people, they pay 6% of the taxes. He also took the opportunity to urge for a better-streamlined immigration process between the two nations.

The Congressman from Georgia made these proclamations in his first speech in the house of representatives. At the same time, he took the opportunity to pay a special tribute to Swati Vijay Kulkarni. She will return to India shortly after serving her term as the third consulate general in Atlanta.

In his first speech, Congressman McCormick took the stage to applaud his constituents. He made a special mention of the Indian Community, stating that they were some of the most productive and family oriented. The congressman also pointed out that one of every five doctors in his community is an Indian. He noted that they follow the laws and are never causing trouble and commended them for being law-abiding good citizens of America.

Rich McCormick urged better streamlining of the immigration process to facilitate travel between the two nations. Notably, the Union Minister of commerce and industry, Piyush Goyal, has made a similar request from the USA. He has urged the authorities to make business visa processing quicker to facilitate business trips.

The Minister has further underscored that the movement of students, professionals and tourists is increasing between the two nations. As per a report of the ANI, Indian-American community is one of the most successful immigrant communities in the United States. They are excelling in various fields, including politics. As per the reports, the Indian diaspora has served as a catalyst in cementing closer ties between India and the US.

The nearly 200,000 Indians studying in the United States contribute about USD 7.7 billion annually to the US economy. This amount accounted for 23 per cent of total remittances in 2020-21.
