CS Ababu Namwamba attends Jamhuri Day celebration with Prez Ruto

Ababu Namwamba, joined the President of Kenya William Samoei Ruto and various other dignitaries for the 59th Celebrations of the Jamhuri Day.

The Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, sports and arts, Ababu Namwamba, has extended his greetings to the people of Kenya on the 59th Jamhuri Day. Jamhuri Day is celebrated as a commemoration of when Kenya gained independence from Great Britain in 1963 and entered the Commonwealth as a republic a year later. 

The Cabinet Secretary of Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts, Ababu Namwamba, joined the President of Kenya William Samoei Ruto and various other dignitaries for the 59th Celebrations of the Jamhuri Day. The government held the celebrations at Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi.

The Day is set aside to celebrate Kenya’s ‘Republic’ status and her subsequent admission to the Commonwealth. This year’s Jamhuri Day around Technology and innovation.

The theme of the celebration for the year 2022 was Connect, Innovate and Inspire. The celebration featured an address delivered by the President of Kenya, William Samoei Ruto. 

In his address, the Prime Minister President commended the efforts of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Arts to revive sports and arts space in the country.

President Ruto revealed in his Jamfari day address that his administration recognizes sports and the arts as a mega industry which can employ millions of our youth and help grow our economy,”

Further, the President added that through the Ministry of Youth Affairs Sports and the Arts, under Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, his administration rapidly moved to streamline the sports and art space.

Further, during his address at the Jamhuri day festivities, The President revealed that he had agreed to champion a grassroots football development program that will see the national government work with county governments to invest heavily in youth football.

He also detailed that Arrangements are at an advanced stage to launch a Bottom-up football tournament to be contested by under-19 teams from all 47 Counties. Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has rolled out a robust plan to turn the arts and the sports arena into a mega industry, a key economic driver and a leading employer for Kenyans.
