The youths had earlier gone on tour to the road project. They also visited the ongoing construction of the bridge linking Oporoma, the headquarters of the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

They gathered at the Government House gate in solidarity to thank the governor. Meanwhile, the government officials received the Council of Chiefs at the governor’s conference room.

Governor Diri addressed the Chiefs and Youths in attendance. In his address, the governor said that Bayelsa and the government prioritize linking the riverine communities by roads.

Further, The governor thanked the people of Southern Ijaw for standing by the government and ensuring that the road construction did not stop. At the same time, he especially thanked the state House of Assembly leader, Monday Obolo and the immediate past chairman of Southern Ijaw LGA, Kia Nigeria. He expressed gratitude for their role in ensuring no group disrupted the road construction.

Moreover, he urged the people to shun violence, stating that without peace, there can be no development.

“My dear people, we are humbled by your visit. I know that part of what was of concern to the people of Southern Ijaw people was that road because many believe that it is only when a son of southern Ijaw becomes a governor that the government will construct a road there.

Furthermore, he added, I have travelled the length and breadth of Ijaw Nation as the pioneer National Organizing Secretary of the Ijaw National Congress. I know what our people are going through. I can come from somewhere other than Southern Ijaw to construct a road there. That’s why I am proving many of them wrong”, Governor Diri stated.
