Armed individuals attacked Abu Sifau at the Sabo-Oke area in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. The armed men escaped after robbing more than N6 Million from his vehicle.
According to the eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred after midday, at 1:00 PM. The residents of the area, shopowners and pedestrians around the area were able to witness the incident.
Further, the witnesses have informed that the armed individuals, who were four in number fired gunshots to scare the people away from the area. Following this, they attacked their target.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attack was deliberate. The attackers were in a Toyota Camry car and were trailing the victim. The victim was in a Lexus car with another passenger. The vehicle was marked ‘Sarkin Samarin Bacita’
According to the eyewitness, he recognized the car to be belonging to traditional title holder in Bacita in the Edu Local Government Area of the state.
The eyewitness elaborated that the car was going into the street and had two passengers when suddenly the Toyota Camry, with about four guys wearing a mask, and heavily armed, overtook it. They stopped the car and made for the bag containing the money.”
The witness revealed that there were no injured parties in the accident. He further stated that some police officers later accompanied the two victims to the robbery scene to carry out an on-the-spot investigation.
According to the source, the robbery incident happened near an abandoned refuse disposal truck of the state government.
He revealed that the people of the community had asked the government to help tow the truck away, but there was no action.
The police Public relations officer (PPRO) of the police command of Kwara state, Ajayi Okasanmi, has confirmed the incident.
He has further revealed that the police officials have directed the situation to the state CID. The police has done this to ensure that investigations take place discreetly.
