Oyo state Police confirms release of abducted professor

The abductors have released the formerly kidnapped former deputy vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Adigun Agbaje in Oyo state.

Armed Individuals abducted Professor Adigun Agbaje and two female students on Friday, October 28. The Abductors were dressed in military uniform. According to the sources, the armed men kidnapped the victims around Dominica University on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Following the abduction, the individuals contacted Agbaje’s family. They demanded a ransom of N50 million for his release. Meanwhile, they demanded N10 million each to release the two female students.

On Monday, the police officers confirmed the release of the former Deputy vice-chancellor in a statement. They also revealed that Professor Agbaje was undergoing debriefing.

The police officers identified the two students of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic as Olayemi Adejare and Oluwatobi Orekoya.

Following their release, on Sunday, October 30, all three abduction victims were picked up at a location near Sat Guru Maharaji on Ibadan-Lagos Expressway.

The situation surrounding Professor Adigun Agbaje’s kidnap and release is still unclear. It is unclear whether Agbaje’s family paid the abductors’ demanded ransom.

The police officials of the Oyo state police command have revealed no further information regarding the abduction of the former DMV.

The Police Public Relations officer of the police command, Osifeso Adewale, did not talk about the kidnap in detail. However, he said (the former DMV Professor Agbaje) had been released. Currently, I am in a management meeting. I just came to pick up your call.”

He was unable to provide any further details. However, he was happy to answer any oncoming questions at a later stage when there was more information available to the officers.

Incidents of Kidnapping and ransom are not new to the area of Oyo state. The police and armed forces of the region have been tirelessly to control instances from taking place. According to official statistics, the authorities are succeeding in maintaining the crime rates.
