Nigerian Woman arrested in Chennai with 72gm cocaine

A Nigerian woman was arrested from the chennai for the possession and selling of cocaine worth 3 million Naira.

A woman from Nigeria was arrested near Chennai’s Kanathur toll gate for allegedly selling cocaine. The police authorities of the Indian state reportedly recovered cocaine worth an equivalent of 3 Million Naira from her possession. A report said the cops also recovered a mobile phone and Rs 2.6 lakh (equivalent of 1 Million Naira) in cash from the Nigerian national.

In a report, the woman was identified as Anyeni Monika by the local police’s Pallikaranai Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW). The authorities caught the Nigerian woman within the city limits during the PEW’s routine check along the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) and East Coast Road (ECR).

According to the news report, When the police authorities stopped and interrogated her, Anyeni Monika behaved suspiciously. The Indian Police officers checked her thoroughly and found she was selling drugs. The authorities recovered around 72 grams of cocaine from the Nigerian’s hand, the daily said.

Drug smuggling is one of the most commonly observed crimes in the coastal state of Southern India. The police and judicial authorities of Chennai and the neighbouring states are working on ensuring that the drug-related and crime statistics of the state may remain low.

In August, over 10 kilograms of narcotics worth Rs 111.41 crore concealed in the cabin baggage were confiscated at the Chennai airport by the Customs Department. In the case, the investigators arrested two passengers, including a woman from Angola.

In July 2022, the police authorities seized more than a kilogram of heroin, worth Rs 8.86 crore, from a Tanzanian citizen.

The Chennai police authorities were acting on specific information (tip). The department officials intercepted the passenger who arrived from Entebbe, Uganda, on July 14.

The officials had recovered the drug the smugglers were carrying in the form of capsules. Notably, the passenger had swallowed 86 pills and recovered the drug weighing 1.26 kg worth Rs 8.86 crore on extraction.
