Ruling the United Kingdom for around 70 years, Queen Elizabeth II took her last breath on Thursday afternoon. She passed away at the age of 96 after reigning as the longest-serving monarch of the nation. The Queen’s family gathered at the Scottish estate where she had spent much of her summer. The family gathered after the doctors showed concerns for her health condition, and she died at the place.

Queen witnessed enormous changes in society after being thrown in 1952. Her eldest son Charles, the former Prince of Wales, will be leading the country in mourning and will further serve as the new King. Both King and his wife Camila will return to London on Friday at Buckingham Palace, and it is also expected that the King will also address the nation.

On her death, Buckingham Palace issued a statement that stated, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

While showering grief, Prince Charles also issued a statement that reads, “The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.”

“I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”
Queen was placed under medical supervision at Balmoral, near Aberdeen, where her children visited, and her grandson, Prince William, is also there, with his brother, Prince Harry, on his way.

The tenure of Queen Elizabeth II witnessed various scenarios, such as head of state spanned post-war austerity, the transition from empire to Commonwealth, the end of the Cold War, and the UK’s entry into – and withdrawal from – the European Union.

While experiencing the administration of 15 prime ministers, she remained the longest-serving Queen. Her reign started with Winston Churchill, born in 1874, and finished with Liz Truss, born 101 years later in 1975. She was appointed by Queen earlier this week.

Paying condolences to Queen President of African National Congress Cyril Ramaphosa stated that he met Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the last Commonwealth meeting which was held in London in 2018 where they spent some time looking at letters that former President Nelson Mandela sent to the Queen, and they reminisced about the great stateman that Her Majesty so respected.

On behalf of the Government and people of South Africa, he wishes to express his profound and sincere condolences to His Majesty, King Charles III, on the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

On the other hand, President of Nigeria Muhammdu Buhari also took to social media to mourn the demise of Queen Elizabeth. He said that his family and he and the more than 200 million Nigerians have learned with immense sadness of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, and the end of her unique and wonderful 70-year reign. She was the only British Sovereign known to 90 percent of the population.

While paying tribute to Queen, he stated that the story of modern Nigeria will never be complete without a chapter on Queen Elizabeth ll, a towering global personality and an outstanding leader. She dedicated her life to making her nation, the Commonwealth and the entire world a better place.

He also welcome the ascension of His Majesty King Charles III to the throne, in line with tradition, and pray that his reign will witness continuing robust relations between the two nations.
