Sani Yusuf, who is the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), said that the floods destroyed hundreds and thousands of homes in the state.

He said the situation pushed the residents to take refuge in other places such as government buildings.

According to the sources, the state government housed several displaced individuals in around 11 temporary camps. Some victims came from Balangu village, where over 237 homes were destroyed while four individuals died.

Yusuf said that four people died in Balangu village and six others in Kafin Hausa. The state has lost around 50 people to the flash floods, and seven of these people were from the same family.

As part of the efforts which are being made by the Federal Government, Sadiya Umar, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, visited the North-Western state to disseminate relief aid.

She was in the state along with Mustapha Habib, the Director General National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to provide assistance to the victims.

The minister stated that her mission to the state was based on the directives of President Muhammadu Buhari to provide the required support to the victims of the floods.

Umar stated that the incident is unfortunate as it has become a concern which arises every year. This is causing severe damage to houses, schools as well as the livelihoods of the people.

Upon getting the news of this unfortunate incident, President Buhari directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management to act against it and ask the National Emergency Management Agency to respond and give the required support to the affected individuals.

In his statement, Badaru Abubakar, the Jigawa State Governor, praised the actions of the Federal Government, which was a quick response to tackle the situation and manage the displaced persons.
