Due to this, the NCDC has urged states to raise testing while also asking citizens to follow safety protocols to prevent the spread of the virus.

The NCDC added that in the past eight weeks, the positivity ratio of COVID-19 has continued to rise.

As per the sources, Nigeria recorded 260,339 confirmed cases by July 22, 2022, and out of this, 253,566 has recovered from the virus, while 3,147 died due to complications related to COVID-19.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Friday, July 22, reported that there were more than 565 million cases in the world, with over 6.3 million people dying.

But, 9,181,118 cases of the virus have been confirmed in the African region. It also said that as of July 9, more than 12 billion doses of vaccinations of Covid-19 had been administered, including first, second and booster shots.

The data obtained from NCDC on Saturday disclosed that testing in Nigeria has fallen by 53.42%.

As per the NCDC data, the nation reported 478 new cases between July 16 and 18, with Lagos accounting for 325 cases, Rivers State recording 60, the Federal Capital Territory reporting 29, Delta State accounting for 25, Edo State recording 17, Oyo State accounting for eight followed by Kano State accounting for six, Bayelsa reporting four, and Ekiti accounting for four.

Between July 19 and 20, 235 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported from six states and the FCT. Lagos had the highest cases of 138, Rivers had 36, Delta reported 21, Kaduna had 17, FCT had 13 followed by Edo with nine, and Kano with one.

From July 21 to 22, the country reported 619 new cases and the highest were found in Ekiti (364); Lagos (62); Rivers (58); Delta (27); FCT (22); Oyo (19); Cross River (16); Abia (14); Kano (12); Bayelsa (11); Nasarawa (8); Gombe (3); Plateau (2); and Bauchi (1).
