He said that it is worrisome that as of June, no less than 7,408 driver’s licences that have been approved and are yet to be collected around our licensing centres in the state.

He stated that the corps would partner with the Delta Board of Internal Revenue to make the collection process easy and rapid.

It seems that many drivers are unwilling to collect their licences which is why the possession of a valid driving license stays a major necessity for motorists.

He stated that having a driver’s licence gives drivers the legal backing as well as the confidence to stay on the road and saves them from unnecessary embarrassment.

Eshiet stated that the command would boost a campaign on the requirement for drivers to have their licences while they are on the road.

The sensitisation will also aim at awakening the consciousness of the drivers regarding the penalty for driving without a valid driving license.

For those people who are yet to get their valid licences, Eshiet stated that defaulters risk around N10,000 fine or imprisonment of six months or both.

He further added that we are not after punishing people, but we motivate all drivers to process their licence and be on the road with their vehicle without the fear of getting arrested by our personnel.

Eshiet asked drivers of motorcycles and tricycles to assure that they are registered before getting on the road while adding that everything we do is for the overall interest of the motorists.
