Nigeria: President Muhammadu Buhari has given his heartiest congratulations to Sen. Ademola Adeleke, contender of the PDP (Peoples Democratic Party), following the success of the party during Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Osun.
The congratulatory message of the President is contained in a statement by his spokesperson, Femi Adesina, on Sunday, July 17, in Abuja, Nigeria.
Buhari communicated his confidence that with the end of the election, the people of Osun showed their will via the ballot, and the will of the people must always be considered and be respected in a democracy.
As per him, the successful conduct of the Osun elections is a further testimony towards the maturity and commitment of all stakeholders, such as security agencies, the electoral body, political parties, civil society, the media and the electorate – to strengthen further the integrity of the electoral process in the nation.
Buhari reassured the country that the commitment of this administration to have credible elections stays unshaken.
Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the INEC returning officer for the Osun gubernatorial election, on Sunday morning, July 17, declared Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party as the winner of the Osun governorship election, which took place on July 16.
He announced that Adeleke got 403,371 votes, through which he defeated his closest rival, Governor Gboyega Oyetola, the candidate from the APC, who got 375,027 votes.
Ogundipe, who is the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos University, stated that the ADP (Action Democratic Party) scored 10,104 and came third in the general elections.
He also stated that the Accord Party candidate got 4,515 and came fourth in elections.
