Gunmen, locally known as bandits, are reported to have attacked a few members of the Ansaru terrorist sect in Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of the Kaduna State in Nigeria while the denomination was preaching to locals. The bandits killed two villagers during the attack.
The bandits were reported to have stormed Damari village under Kazage Ward in the Eastern part of the local government in a try to dislocate the terrorists from the village.
As per the sources, the terrorists have allegedly taken over communities in the eastern part of the Local Government Area, guiding villagers against attacks by bandits.
Ishaq Usman Kafai, the chairman of the Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressive Union (BEPU), stated that the attack lasted for around two hours, with the highly armed Ansaru group forcing the bandits to retreat.
There were huge destructions during the attack, such as a shop being burnt, two vehicles being burnt, and a private hospital being also set on fire.
He added that two local labourers also lost their lives as the bandits killed them while they were running away towards the forest.
Ishaq further added that the hospital was burnt accidentally because of the fire that spread from a burning vehicle.
He said that the casualty figure between the armed bandits and the Ansaru members could not be precise but noted that the locals hailed the Ansaru members for protecting the town from the attack of the bandits.
On the other hand, the Kaduna Police Command stated that it would comment on the matter when it collects more information.
Recently, several attacks were reported by bandits in Nigeria as these are continuously rising with every passing day. The police officials are also trying their best to arrest these bandits and stop their violence forever.
