The incident took place at the entrance of Ben Jen lodge, Umuokomoche, in the Owerri West LGA of the State.

Emeka Uwalaka, a student of the Civil Engineering Department, was stated to be coming back from church on Sunday, July 10, when the yet-to-be-identified officer allegedly shot at him, with the bullet striking the hostel gate of the student.

It was not immediately clear what the policeman accused Uwalaka of doing, but the officer who, with three others, was stated to have escaped the scene after the incident.

As the pupils heard the gunshots, they rushed for safety.

Uwalaka stated on his way back from church on Sunday, July 10, and he saw people were running and asked the warden why everyone was on the run.

He called on the Police Commissioner of Imo State Command to fish him out and sanction the said officer to act as a barrier to other officers who are so rapid in taking laws into their hands.

Also adding, Okeke Prince, the caretaker of the lodge, expressed a state of shock, stating that he was not sure of their safety in the hands of the police officers anymore.

He said, these officers assualted Okpara Emmanuel of the Department of Electrical Engineering, who is waiting for NYSC call-up, and I asked why they took away his wristwatch and his phone and insisted they must probe his room.”

“I had to interfere because I am the caretaker, but it only took the intervention of the community vigilantes to manage the situation.”

He stated the police officer must meet the wrath of the law.
