Criminals reportedly attacked Bauchi State lawmakers at their guest house while damaging cars and windows in a function in a state on Monday, July 4.
The house has been mired in a leadership crisis since last Thursday, June 30, with 22 individuals passing a vote of no confidence on Abubakar Suleiman, the Speaker, as well as principal officers of the assembly.
Babale Abubakar, who is the Majority Leader of the House, said on Monday in Bauchi that the recent attack which took place around 4 pm as the lawmakers were having a meeting. The attackers left six of them injured.
Abubakar stated that no earlier than the Special Advisor on State and National Assembly Liaison to the state governor, Mani Mohammed Burra, left them that the criminals created havoc.
As per him, one of the attackers held him by the neck and asked if he was still the leader of the house.
He stated they were ready to kill him. Six members got injured during this incident, and some were taken to the hospital, and they are said to be fine. The situation was very scary, as per him.
However, he said the matter had been reported to the Police Commissioner in the state.
While reacting towards the incident, Burra dissociated himself and the executive arm from this brutal attack.
He explained it as uncalled for and disappropriate at a time when efforts are being made to solve the leadership crisis rocking the legislature.
The assistant of the governor also called on security agencies to dig into the issue and arrest and prosecute those involved in the heinous act to serve as a deterrent.
