The thieves arrested on June 23, Thursday, were coming back from Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

As per the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the two men, Wasiu Opeyemi and Noah Israel, who are from Benue State, were arrested by officials of the state anti-kidnapping unit during a regular patrol at the Mowe area of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Both the men were on a bike when they were stopped by the officers due to their suspicious manner, after which they were caught and questioned.

The two suspects then attempted to run but were immediately surrounded by the officials and taken to the nearest police station.

As the police officers were interrogating them, they confessed in front of them that they were coming back from Ogbomoso in Oyo state, where they had gone to carry out a theft operation.

They also confessed that all the items that were with them were from the proceeds of the robber’s operation.

They also said that one of their victims was compelled to transfer the amount of one hundred thousand nairas in their accounts as nothing tangible asset was found with him.

The suspects claimed to have held a meeting at Oba correctional centre while serving their different jail tenures and confessed to robbing their victims with the help of cutlass and many other weapons.

The police have recovered two laptops, eleven different types of mobile phones, one Rolex wristwatch, a cash amount of one hundred and twenty-two thousand nairas and a few bags containing household items from them.

The Ogun Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, Oyeyemi has ordered a comprehensive investigation of the accused robbers before transferring them to the Oyo state where they will be charged.
