A preliminary report by the Bar Beach Police Division said trouble started when popular Nigerian singer, Burna Boy and his five police escorts visited the nightclub around 4 am on June 8.
Burna Boy was in the VIP section of Club Cubana with three women when he spotted another ‘married woman’ in the company of her husband. The Grammy Award-winning artist told Inspector Ibrahim, one of his police escorts, to invite the ‘married woman’ to come to join him.
This gesture annoyed the lady’s husband, who lambasted Burna Boy, saying it was disrespectful for any man to make advances at a ‘married woman’.
After some minutes, Burna Boy made advances toward the ‘married woman’ again, a development that infuriated her husband and his friends who had gathered at the club, and the matter soon degenerated.
The shooting incident reportedly occurred at Club Cubana on Victoria Island, Lagos, on Wednesday, as per reports. It was learnt that Burna Boy was laughing while the incident occurred and immediately left for Spain.
A source also said that during the heated moment, Inspector Ibrahim brought out his service pistol and released fire multiple times as the musician laughed aloud non-stop.
According to reports from Nigerian Force Headquarters, “Musician has no hiding place, Burna must turn himself in, as he was accused of ‘flirting’ with a married woman, they are ready to alert INTERPOL to track the artist’s movement.”
Moreover, two people also got injured when Burna Boy’s associate started firing in the club, after which police has detained all of his associates, but he left for Spain without informing anyone.
Both the injured men are now being treated at a local hospital in Lagos.
Investigations are going on over Burna Boy as he committed a crime and left the country without permission from authorities or without any statement regarding the whole incident.
