Advocate Malesela Teffo, the Defence lawyer, has claimed that an eyewitness will attest Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead by his girlfriend by mistake, singer Kelly Khumalo.

Teffo is representing four of the men that are accused of murdering Meyiwa (a South African professional footballer) at Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus, Boksburg, in October 2014.

He presented this version of events through a witness who has not been called yet to the stand while cross-interrogating the State’s first witness in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday, 1 June.

Teffo stated that the witness would attest that Meyiwa was shot dead by Khumalo with the use of a revolver that belonged to Longwe Twala.

Longwe Twala is the son of musician Chicco Twala and was one of the people present at the house when the shooting took place at night.

At that time, Longwe was dating Khumalo’s sister, Zandie.

Teffo claimed that after Meyiwa had been shot, a meeting was conducted between the people in the house and high-ranking police officers, as well as ex Gauteng community safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malubane.

As per Teffo, who did not verify his claims, a plan was made at the meeting to disclose the truth about Meyiwa’s death and stage a scene so that those in the house would be held liable.

It was reported that Teffo’s case was uncovered during the cross-examination of the first witness, Sergeant Thabo Mosia, in which, via questions to Mosia, he presented a plan in which his clients were framed effectively for the murder.

Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Muzikawukhulelwa S’Tembu Sibiya, Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa, Mthobisi Prince Mncube and Fisokuhle Ntuli have been charged with the murder of South African professional footballer Meiywa. The trial still continues.
