Nigeria: A 54-year-old Pastor Peter Nwachukwu, husband to the late Osinachi Nwachukwu, has been sentenced to death by hanging as given by the Attorney-General of the Federation.
Osinachi Nwachukwu died last April 8 after she allegedly suffered from many domestic violence cases. In Nigeria, Peter was held in front of the prosecutor last Friday, May 27.
The Federal Government of Nigeria has registered 23-count charges against Peter Nwachukwu, who is the husband of late famous gospel artist, Osinachi, after allegedly assaulting her.
The prosecutor has accused the suspect of forcefully removing the deceased from the family home and also pushing Osinachi out of a moving vehicle.
The prosecution has also alleged that the defendant restrained the deceased in her personal life by thwarting her movement and locking her up in the house.
Earlier, the Attorney-General of the Federation reported 23-count culpable homicide-related accusations against Peter Nwachukwu before the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
Nwachukwu was also equally charged with verbal, emotional and psychological abuse contrary to section 14(1) of the VAPP Act (Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, 2015).
The defendant was said to have rejected Osinachi access to her own money for medication and household requirements and forced her into borrowing and begging.
The accusation further alleged that Osinachi’s husband forcefully separated and isolated her from her family by stopping the deceased’s mother and siblings from visiting her matrimonial home.
Furthermore, Nwachukwu was also charged with brutally beating the children and then recording their cries as well as playing them on his phone. He was then charged with a culpable homicide which is regarded as punishable with death by hanging.
The Final Judgement was given on May 29 2022, as the Judge sentenced Nwachukwu to Death by hanging.
The execution is also said to take place in the forthcoming days.
