One member of the local government staff said that it was the responsibility of the state government to take care of citizens in such conditions, and leaving them in such situations would be harmful to their well being.

They stated that the past administration in the state had launched a rehabilitation centre at Ilobu to rehabilitate, transform, and reunite the needy with their family.

As per the sources, the woman’s family has tried everything they could to take the boy from her, but she is blaming them for wanting to use him for rituals.

“The situation is beyond our control now. The state government should intercede through the Ministry of Women and Children and Social Affairs,” stated a member of the local government staff.”

“Non-governmental Organisations can also be of aid to the child. If given proper medical attention, the mother’s illness can also be healed.”

“Sometimes, she speaks well when she comes back to her senses, while she talks incoherently occasionally.”

“We have a rehabilitation centre at Ilobu in the last administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. This is where such condition is treated”, they said.

The mentally-unstable nursing mother, identified as Kafilat and an indigene of Ifon and locals, revealed that she has been going around with her baby, about 12 months old.

During the questioning, Kafilat disclosed that her family has denied taking care of her since the outbreak of her illness and has also claimed that her parents-in-law chased her out of her parents’ home.

She revealed that she doesn’t know her baby’s name as it wasn’t told to her because of her condition at the time of the child’s birth, and she further added that she was looking forward to getting proper medical attention.

However, The Osun State Ministry of Women, Children and Social Affairs is yet to ascertain if they have stepped in to take charge of the situation.
