Castries: The Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Ernest Hilaire expressed his pride on the achievement of Julien Alfred, 22, who is celebrated sprint athlete of the country. She recently clinched gold medal in the 60 metres at the World Athletics Indoor Championship, 2024.
Hilaire, who is also serving as a Minister for Tourism and member of parliament from Castries South extended greetings, on behalf of Ciceron for the remarkable achievement of Alfred.
“I represent the entire community of Ciceron, by extension Castries South, when I say; we are extremely proud of you and your achievements”, added Minister Hilaire.
The athlete received a grand welcome by the officials from government, and sports on Friday as she arrived back to her home country after securing the world indoor 60-metre championship in Scotland last month. She completed the competition in 6.98 seconds by defeating 9 other contestants.
She hoped that her victory would inspire the youth to contribute in the sports or any other field.
“I am hoping it can inspire the youth to also continue in the same path, maybe a different path”, Alfred remarked during welcoming ceremony at airport.
The Minister for Youth Development and Sports, Kenson Casimir congratulated the sprinter for her unwavering dedication and untiring efforts, that allowed her to rise and shine.
He urged the citizens to support and appreciate the track and field. Casimir focused on youth development, which will contribute in the overall development of the country.
The Tourism Minister, Hilaire encourage Alfred, who is a young sprint sensation to work continuously and efficiently in her field. “The world is yours to conquer”, said Hilaire.
Additionally, sprinter Alfred became the first ever athlete from Saint Lucia to achieved a world title at the World Athletics Indoor Championship, 2024. The championship took place in Glasgow, Northern Ireland and Great Britain from March 1 to 3.
Her victory at such a prestigious level inspire others to work hard for their dreams and achieve success in their life.
