KwaZulu Natal (Ottawa): A 23-year-old female lying on the road after being run over by a truck was robbed of her cell phone in Ottawa – KZN on Tuesday afternoon.
Reaction Unit officers reported this case when they were on duty while patrolling in the area in the afternoon at approximately 13:07 when they discovered the female lying on the road.
A Powerstar water tanker was located approximately 200 meters away. It was established that the pedestrian was crossing the road when she was run over by the truck. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
While waiting for assistance, the victim was robbed of her Huawei Nova cellphone by two (2) males. The robbery was witnessed by a passerby who stopped to assist. He provided Reaction Officers with a description of the thieves, but they could not be located.
The injured woman was stabilised on scene before being transported to hospital by ambulance.
Furthermore, Passerby gave an interview in which he said, “People are sick in this world which has become! So many humans, so little humanity! May karma serve them well; speedy recovery to the lady.”
However, residents blamed the truck owner as they believed the truck driver was an illegal Zimbabwean, which is why he fled.
“These truck owners hire illegal Zimbabweans and others to drive then they do such and leave the scene never to be found again !!” said resident Zamafuze Goba Ngcobo.
Moreover, Crime and robbery in KZN are increasing day by day. Yesterday also, one of the truck drivers killed an Emona resident. He was also a Zimbabwean who was driving a truck after consuming alcohol. Reaction Unit Officers handed over the intoxicated driver to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Moreover, RUSA officers successfully recovered the body and body was recovered by the Ethekwini Fire Department and Rescue Technicians with the use of pneumatic equipment.
