Shehu Sani expresses grief over abduction of priest in Kaduna

Celebrated author and senator of Nigeria, Shehu Sani, has expressed grief over the abduction of a catholic priest in the Kaduna state. He referred to the incident in a tweet, terming the incident unfortunate.

Further, he urged the people to “keep him (catholic priest) in their prayers”. At the same time, he has also encouraged the authorities involved in the case to ensure that the catholic priest can return to his home and family safe.

Several tweeters echoed the senator’s sentiments in the replies and comments accompanying the senator’s tweet. They also prayed for reverend Father Abraham’s safe return to his home.

Senator Shehu Sani hails from the state of Kaduna, where the incident occurred. According to Fides.org, Armed individuals kidnapped Reverend Abraham Kunat from the local government area of Kachia. Kachia forms part of the Kaduna State.

The incident took place around midnight on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. The news of the abduction was given to the media by The Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Kaduna,

Father Christian Okewu Emmanuel. He explained to the local press that the victim was a parish priest of St. Bernard Church, Idon Gida, in the Kachia local government.

However, due to insecurity situations prevalent in the region, he lived in the parish of St Mulumba. He revealed that the abductors kidnapped the victim from the same area.

Incidents of kidnapping in the Kaduna state are not unheard of for the people. Kidnapping and terrorizing citizens is an issue of concern for the state’s authorities.

The residents and citizens of Kaduna state have been urging the authorities to find a solution to the problem. The issue of terrorism and insecurity has, in repeated instances, proven fatal.

According to the same source as before, Oil village, another area in the state, is prone to repeated raids by bandits. The issue is so severe that the area residents have demanded a permanent military post.
