NDLEA makes arrests for possession of illegal drugs

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) executed operations in 12 states of Nigeria. They arrested 28 people for possession of drugs

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) executed operations in 12 states of Nigeria. The states included in the operations were Yobe, Ondo, Edo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Jigawa, Kogi, Adamawa, Kaduna, Kwara, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

During the proceedings of the operations, The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency arrested 28 people for possession of drugs over 9,437.6 kilogrammes of cannabis and 138,053 tablets of pharmaceutical opioids, among others.

The NDLE also included a pregnant woman, a nursing mother and a university student with over 200 university credits in the list of arrested individuals.

Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy of NDLEA, disclosed that the list included nine Ghanaians. They will be serving 72 years in prison for smuggling.

He revealed this in a statement, “In the FCT, operatives on Saturday, October 15, stormed a village known as Chukuku, which is about 10 kilometres from Gwagwalada, where they raided a large cannabis warehouse. The authorities recovered 510 jumbo bags of the illicit substance weighing 5,640kg from the store. They arrested a nursing mother in charge, Saadatu Abdullahi, aged 35,”

The operatives intercepted 48kg of cannabis in Buni Yadi, in Yobe. Additionally, they raided a location in Potiskum. From this location, they recovered 56 blocks (31kg) from two suspects, Mohammed Mamuda and Hauwa Haruna. The woman was married and pregnant.

On Thursday, October 13, 2022, the operatives of the NDLE raided a location in the Ogbese area of Ondo state. They seized at least 99 bags of cannabis and three bags of its seeds weighing 1,286kg.

The NDLEA staged another raid at the Umukpe forest in the Uhunmonde council area of Edo state. This raid led to the seizure of 410kg of the same substance. The officials also recovered a motorcycle, two Dane guns and the arrest of two suspects. The suspects were: Numga Anim, 30, and Friday Ebije, 50.
