Despite a lack of evidence of their usefulness, charms are used by some in Nigeria. These people want protection against bad luck.

The police authorities have received a number of reports of people being killed after testing “bullet-proof” charms and medicines.

It is yet unclear why the two brothers went to get protection. The police authorities of the Kwara state are now looking into the details of the incident.

According to the police officials, 12-year-old Yusuf Abubakar, the culprit’s brother, is said to have died on the spot after the shooting. On the other hand, his older brother escaped into the bushes, police say.

According to the Kwara state police spokesperson, “The two of them are sons of one Abubakar Abubakar, a hunter in Dutse Gogo town, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. The culprit escaped into the bushes immediately after the act. Investigation into the matter has started.

Following this incident, the Nigerian Police authorities have urged parents “to monitor the activities of their children and avoid doing certain unsavoury activities”.

In the words of the police spokesperson, “Parents and guardians are advised to monitor activities of their children and avoid doing certain things in their presence to prevent incidents of this nature.”
