Kenya MoH kickstarts National Health Information workshop

The Government of Kenya is making significant efforts to revolutionize the healthcare system of the country. They are working towards enhancing data sharing in the healthcare sector.

The Government of Kenya is making significant efforts to revolutionize the healthcare system of the country. They are working towards enhancing data sharing in the healthcare sector. Accordingly, the government of Kenya partnered with their health ministry. Thus, They have started a pivotal five-day convergence workshop on national health information exchange.

The event took place at Pride Inn Plaza in Machakos. The initiative commenced on Tuesday, July 28, 2023. The Ministry of Health also shared some images from the event on their social media. They also provided glimpses into the proceedings.

The Ministry shared that they organized the event under the theme “Towards a Secure Trusted Kenya Health Information Exchange”. The event also gathered healthcare professionals, policymakers, and technology experts from across the country. They get the opportunity to deliberate and strategize ways to streamline health information exchange.

The Ministry of Health in Kenya hosted the National Health Information Workshop. They had collaborators from the following authorities:

  • USAID
  • The University of Nairobi,
  • HealthIT

The workshop also seeks to address the challenges the healthcare sector faces in sharing crucial patient data.

The ability to exchange health information efficiently is paramount to delivering optimal healthcare. Further, Ministry of Health believes that it empowers medical providers. They can access patients’ medical history, test results, and other relevant information, regardless of location.

Dr B. Langat, the head of the Directorate of Digital Health, Information, Policy, and Research at the Ministry of Health, presided over the inaugural ceremony. Dr Langat underscored the digital health superhighway vision for universal health coverage in Kenya.

At the same time. He emphasizes the vital role of a robust national health information exchange system. He stated that the information exchange system is important in improving the quality of care, enhancing patient safety, and facilitating data-driven decision-making.
