Cabinet Secretary Youth Affairs, The Arts and Sports Ababu Namwamba accompanied Eng Peter Tum, Permanent Secretary in the Department of Sports, to host the WRC Safari Rally drivers to dinner. They hosted the dinner to appreciate their gallant efforts in the just concluded WRC Safari Rally Kenya.
“From the bustling streets of Nairobi, you navigated all through the roads and endured the long hours to ensure that the Kenyan flag flew high,” said the CS, while congratulating each and every driver for their hard work, professionalism and sacrifice.
The Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba also noted that this year’s Safari Rally was a special heritage event. The event celebrated 70 years of the rally in Kenya. “This evening will leave to mark in our calendar as we appreciate our Rally drivers’ role in keeping our nation together.
As a Cabinet Secretary, I want to assure you that the Government is committed to supporting and uplifting the driving profession in Kenya. Safari rally is not just about foreign drivers flying in with their cars, zooming around our towns for a while and flying back.”
“It cannot be a safari rally without the Kenyan flavour. And this team here gave it that Kenyan feel that has been missing for a long time. This year, we deliberately and intentionally ensured that the Safari Rally came with the Kenyan flavour to boot,” he quipped.
Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary Peter Tum reiterated the ministry’s commitment to recognising and supporting the rally and sports. He also took the opportunity to acknowledge that sports were a universal language. He further stated that sports brought people together and marketed the Kenyan brand globally.
