Amb Elijah Onyeagba named among Africa’s 100 Iconic Leaders

Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba, PhD, Nigeria’s High Commissioner and Ambassador Extra Ordinary/Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Burundi, East Africa, has been named a recipient of the AFRICAN ICONIC LEADERS AWARD by the globally acclaimed New African Magazine.

The authorities conveyed the news of his award nomination to him through an invitation and induction letter titled “Special invitation as Honouree/Speaker at the Leadership Summit/Honours (Morocco 2023). Dr Eko Priase, convener of the African Iconic Leaders Award ceremony and the Head New African Magazine, signed the invitation.

The organizers state that they nominated Nigeria’s outstanding Ambassador for his “significant achievement and testament of his Hard work, dedication and exceptional contribution to African diplomacy and intergovernmental development.

The organizers have further nominated Ambassador Onyeagba as the Lead panellist cum discussant on the Topic: Cross Border Trade and Investment Opportunities in Africa: Challenges, opportunities and way forward.

The organizers are hosting the 2023 edition of the summit under the theme “REBUILDING AND REBRANDING THE AFRICAN WAY”.

The event will feature an array of Honoree and Speakers, which include Olusegun Obasanjo, Former President of Nigeria, Dr Tony Elumelu. According to the event organizers, The summit aims to create an environment for discussion and cross-border views on areas for improving African trade and investment opportunities. They have scheduled the event from July 18 to July 22, 2023, at the Farah Rabat Hotel, Morocco.’

It is also worthy of note that Amb Elijah Onyeagba, PhD through His Excellent diplomatic engagements as the Nigeria Head of Mission in Burundi, revolutionalized diplomacy between Nigerian and Burundi within the East African (EAC) economic corridors.

Upon His assumption as the Nigeria Head of Mission in Burundi, he initiated and signed the first ever Nigeria Burundi Bilateral Agreement, which has grown the volume of Trade, Business interaction and Government to Government (G2G) and improved the relationship between the two economies.

Amb. Onyeagba is an Economist by training with an MBA in Finance and an Alumnus of the International Housing Finance Program and the Wharton Business School Securitization in Pennsylvania, USA. He has also bagged certificates from Harvard Business School USA, Saïd Business School Oxford, UK and INSEAD Business School, France.

Before becoming Nigeria’s Ambassador to Burundi, he was the Chairman and Founder of Countrywide Housing Company (CHC). This company developed 676 affordable housing units in Muhammad Sanusi Estate, Darmanawa, Kano, with an unwavering commitment to developing affordable housing units in Nigeria while creating value within the housing ecosystem.

He has over seventeen years of experience in commercial, corporate, retail and mortgage banking; Real Estate, Research, Marketing, and Leadership and is an expert in the structuring and advisory of construction finance deals with a speciality in residential/affordable housing projects.

Meanwhile, He served as the Group Head (AGM) in charge of Real Estate Transactions in ASO Savings & Loans Plc, Nigeria’s largest originator of over seventeen thousand mortgage Assets under the sale of a Federal Government Housing scheme. It was also responsible for developing affordable housing in Nigeria and overseeing the company’s business concerns within the Federal Capital Territory, North and Southern Regions of Nigeria.

Before joining ASO, Amb Elijah Onyeagba worked as Head of Business with Equitorial Trust Bank (now Sterling Bank). He also worked with Bond Bank (now Skye Bank) as Relationship Manager and Platinum Bank (now Keystone Bank) as a relationship officer and Customer Service Officer. He also worked as a research assistant with the Policy Analysis and Research Group (PARG). Ambassador has worked as Head of Commercial (Marketing & Sales), Northern Operations of the Nigeria Securities, Printing and Minting (NSPM Plc).
