If it weren’t for Buhari, Nigeria would be like Venezuela, says Ngige

Nigeria’s Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, has openly declared that the country’s status would have been similar to Venezuela if President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership had not been in place.

Nigeria’s current state of affairs is unappealing, with high inflation, a high cost of living, insecurity issues, and other social issues.

Despite this, Ngige believes Buhari has performed admirably in comparison to a country like Venezuela, which is grappling with severe economic challenges that have made daily life incredibly tough for its residents.

“We give thanks to God.” I am a member of the government. “I know that if we didn’t have the kind of strong leader that we have in President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s experience would have been similar to Venezuela’s,” Ngige added.

Ngige continued by describing Buhari as an excellent leader with all the characteristics that entails.

“A good leader must be an implementer; he must be knowledgeable because he will deconstruct and crystalize the vision; he must be a jack of all trades and master of all,” Ngige continued.

“He may not be able to distinguish himself in all areas, but he should be able to distinguish himself in many.”

“He must also have the courage to carry out difficult judgments.” Some of the visions will die or will not be implemented for the good of humanity if you do not act fearlessly.

“He must also be compassionate, understanding when to balance justice with mercy in order to demonstrate his humanity.”

Not everyone will agree with Ngige’s comments because Buhari is unpopular, particularly among the youth, who believe he hasn’t done enough to give them a voice. This is especially true in the aftermath of the EndSARS protests in October 2020, as well as the crackdown on Twitter, which resulted in the microblogging platform’s inaccessibility for 222 days. Economic losses were estimated to be about $546.5 billion ($1.3 billion).
