President Mgbo criticises murder of Nigerian migrant in South Africa

President of Nigeria Union South Africa (NUSA) Mr Collins Mgbo has visited Northern Cape, South Africa, to get the information about the incident in which one Nigerian man died in a mob attack on Feb. 17 2022. The South African Police have promised the president to ensure the safety of Nigerian migrates living in South Africa.

The South African Police have promised the president to ensure the safety of Nigerian migrates living in South Africa.

The deceased has been identified as Nicholas John, who was survived by a four-month child and his wife.

In the presence of Brigadier Rikhotso, the head of Kimberley Police Cluster, the representatives of religious organisations, the host community and the widow of Nicholas John, President Mgbo have urged the authorities to ensure the safety of the residents and control such kind of homicide.

The NUSA president said that John was lynched by a South African mob, and his friend was also beaten by them for buying a stolen laptop on February 11, 2022, while they did nothing to the criminal who stole the laptop. The thief was South African.

John is carried to the hospital via ambulance with the help of other Nigerians, where the doctor team declares that John’s brain was damaged and there is no chance of his recovery.

Mgbo said that the purpose of the meeting was to appeal to the police to make sure that justice was served in the tragic assault on John and for his killers to be brought to book.

The promient aim of the group is to make sure that information should convey to police whenever any misshapen is held in the area so that police can handle the matter quickly before it gets out of control.

Mgbo advised the Nigerians to do their business and stay away from any illegal activities while the police assured them that they would protect their lives and properties.

“The police have promised the Nigerian community that they will make sure their lives and properties are protected,’’ Mgbo said.
The NUSA president advised Nigerians in Kimberly to go about their business and to make sure that they stayed away from illegal activities.

According to Mgbo’s statement, John belonged to Ogun State in Southwestern Nigeria and worked as a cars seller in South Africa’s district in the Northern.
